Gold Pass Team Report

After winning the Gold medal in the combined in Torino, Ted Ligety commented on how much of his innate ability comes from having a solid base through freeskiing. Whether it’s deep powder, hucking off cliffs or dodging trees in the glades, freeskiing remains his first love and source for his inspired ski racing.

The Gold Pass J1/2 team of Molly MacGraw, Isabella Thorndike and Brittany Martin competed at the J1/2 Junior Olympic qualifier at Ski Bowl. The three day race consisted of two slaloms and one giant slalom. The snow was rock hard and the air was cold. It was perfect racing conditions.

Molly MacGraw was on the podium with a third and a second place finish in each of the slaloms. She finished 13th in GS. Isabella’s best slalom finish was 12th. She was 17th in the GS. Brittany put in solid performances in all events, finishing 23, 37 and 31. The team was racing against the top 60 female athletes in the Pacific Northwest.

The J3 Team was competing on the same President’s day weekend at Mt, Hood Meadows. The Martins were able to stay in Government Camp and split racer parent watching duties on the mountain. Hannah Norton, Morgan Martin and McKenzie Legg all put in three solid days of racing with the best J3’s in the PNSA. Hannah snagged a 17th in one of the GS, Morgan a 21st in a slalom and Mckenzie a 24th in GS.

If three day of racing was not enough, all of the girls continued on to the Sun Cup SG and DH at Mt. Bachelor for the week with exception of Izzy. She returned home to concentrate on the Oregon State High School Championships. Go Izzy!!!

The weather for the Sun Cup was exceptions again for the second year in a row. Usually the Sun Cup is anything but sunny.

This was the first chance of the year for some real SPEED. The parents were nervous, but the kids loved it. They all kept getting faster each day. Molly turned in two 13th place finishes in DH and a 17th in GS. She is looking for a race tech that can make the skis a litter faster.
Brittany turned in a 41st, 42nd and 55th, Hannah a 46th, and two 34ths in DH. Mckenzie learned about crashing in DH getting back on the horse. It takes guts and she has ‘em. Morgan turned in a 51st and a 48th in DH.

Molly MacGraw has been selected to compete at the J1/2 Western Region Championships in Sweitzer, Idaho on March 24-27. Go Molly.
