Important Things to Know About MARA
PROGRAM
FEE INFORMATION
MARA program fees are some of the lowest in the Pacific Northwest.
The MARA Board’s goal is to maintain a 50-50 split between fundraising
dollars and tuition. It takes the effort of the entire club to help
cover the costs required to deliver the best possible skiing experience
for our participating athletes.
WHAT ARE THE EXTRA FEES?
Work Deposit – All
MARA skiing families must submit a $100 check* for a work deposit.
This money is earned back through 6 volunteer hours at MARA race
events held throughout the season. *The check
will only be cashed at the end of the season if the volunteer commitment
is not fulfilled.
Fundraising Deposit – All MARA families must submit a $150 check* for a fundraising deposit. This money is earned back through donations of time, materials or services to MARA fundraising events. Volunteer opportunities will be distributed via e-mail and posted on the website. *The check will only be cashed at the end of the season if the volunteer commitment is not fulfilled.
Raffle
Tickets – All MARA athletes will pre-purchase 10
raffle tickets ($100 total) with their registration fees. The tickets
are for a Mt. Ashland Ski Pass for a family of four for next season
(2009-10), worth $2,170. MARA wants to thank Steve and
Sue Lawrence for generously donating such a fantastic raffle prize!
Sell all ten tickets and get your money back, as every ticket sold
goes toward your pre-purchased ticket value. The top seller in the
club will win an IPod Nano Touch and the second highest seller will
win an IPod Nano!
HOW TO REDUCE THE COST
Pay Early – Pay your
fees by November 15th. See the application page for more info.
Enroll more children – Only the first child pays full tuition fees. Reduce the program fee by 10% for each additional child participating.
Volunteer on Race Days – MARA will host three 2-day race events throughout the season. There are many opportunities for skiers and non-skiers to earn back the work deposit. Race day volunteer opportunities are described on the website and sign ups will take place at the parent meeting on the first day of MARA.
Participate in Fundraising – Dedicated teams of parents are needed to organize each fundraising event. You can earn your deposit back by helping plan and execute the event, or donating goods and services to make the event a success.
Sell
Raffle Tickets
– All athletes pre-purchase ten raffle tickets. Sell them all to
friends and family, and you’ve earned your money back. We encourage
athletes to get additional tickets to sell in an effort to win one
of the prizes for the top sellers, but only ten pre-purchased tickets
are required of each athlete.
